Shared Spirit

 I see you

Ablaze with light

Joyfully sharing your fire

With us

To reflect, refract, and multiply

Endlessly outward

Enjoy each gift

That spirit offers

As she enjoys those

That you share

Unstintingly,

With us all.

Behind us, I see

Our mothers, and their mothers

Each, in turn,

Holding space, like you

For our becoming

More ourselves

More one.

This is the first of the poems I wrote as part of my EEM journey. I composed it mostly in the car, on my drive back from EEM Fundamentals Class 3, in Scotland. Over the last four years, November has been a time when I have been more aware of my grief for the loss of my mother, but unable to reconcile myself with it. Class 3 was a bit of breakthrough, in this area, and I am very grateful for the support of my teacher and fellow students with accepting and healing a piece of that grief. Healing is so much more accessible when we are in community, than when we are alone.
